Pregnancy Tips: Drinking Alcohol During Pregnancy

It is said that some experts say moderate drinking during pregnancy is okay, but I would say not to drink at all because your baby will be healthier.

There is no doubt if you are pregnant and take a drink – a glass of wine, a beer or a cocktail – your unborn child takes the same drink. Whatever you eat or drink while pregnant goes directly through your bloodstream into the placenta.

It goes without saying. If you’re having a drink, baby is too.

For the unborn child, the alcohol interferes with his ability to get enough oxygen and nourishment for normal cell development in the brain and other body organs.

Research has shown that a developing foetus has very little tolerance for alcohol and infants born to mothers who drink during pregnancy can have serious problems.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) are common causes of mental retardation and behavioral disorders in children. FAS can occur during fetal development -especially during the first trimester if a pregnant woman consumes alcohol. FASDs after birth as the child grows – resulting in severe mental and physical abnormalities. In fact, studies show that any use of alcohol by pregnant women increases the risk of giving birth to a baby with a physical or mental disorder. Children with FASD have been far more severe behavioral issues than children with Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD).

Potential Problems of children born with FASDs:

Intellectual disabilities.

Poor memory, inferior reasoning ability, and learning disorders.

Abnormal physical features – especially facial and head features.

Physical ailments including organs, hearing and sight.

Therefore, we should realise , alcohol is dangerous, not only for your baby and we all know that. So, why risk your baby’s health? My advice is staying clean, it only be for during pregnancy.
